Q. I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima SE and just got my starter replaced at 110,000 miles with a remanufactured one. The car is starting fine now but the only problem that I have is that the check engine light stays on.

Nissan Maxima Check Engine

The service department told me to run the car for about 30 miles and the light should turn off. Is this correct??? What are your thoughts on this issue.

Thanks for your time, Have a great day...

A. Well, it might go out in 30 miles, but it probably won't. The thing to do is find out why it came on in the first place. Did they screw something up when they put the starter in? Are they trying to blow you off? Do they know how to check it and turn the light off?

Even if the light should go out, there will be a code stored in the PCM. If the light goes out, that means the fault is no longer occuring. And if it doesn't occur again in 50 key starts, the code will be erased from the PCM memory.
